Lights Camera Action is a non-profit community service initiated by the City of Sydney and managed in conjunction with Youth Services. The project gives local Indigenous people an opportunity to gain acting and extra work in film and television, and in print media advertising.
The City of Sydney is fortunate to have a large urban Indigenous population living beside many socially, ethnically and culturally diverse groups. This makes the City of Sydney an exciting and culturally varied inner city area and the whole community enjoys the benefits of this exciting cosmopolitan atmosphere.
A major aim of Lights Camera Action is to address the under-representation of Indigenous people in film, television and print. The program is also developing a creative solution to the high unemployment rate of young people in the area and having an impact on low self-esteem, poverty and racism.
